Our Methodology

We type-test each keyboard for at least 2 weeks in real work and gaming scenarios. We measure actuation force with a force gauge, test latency with specialized tools, and evaluate build quality, keycap material, and sound profile. No manufacturer has editorial influence over our rankings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I compare when choosing a mechanical keyboard?
Compare layout (full-size, TKL, 75%, 60%), switch type (linear, tactile, clicky), hot-swap vs soldered, connectivity (wired, wireless, Bluetooth), programmability (QMK, VIA, proprietary), and build material (plastic, aluminum).
What's the difference between 60%, 75%, and TKL?
60% has no function row or arrow keys (compact). 75% keeps function row and arrows in a compact layout. TKL (tenkeyless) removes the number pad but keeps function row and arrows. Choose based on space and key needs.
Are optical switches better than mechanical?
Optical switches use light instead of metal contacts—faster actuation and no debounce. They can feel similar to mechanical. Razer and Wooting use optical. Some prefer traditional mechanical for the feel. Both are valid choices.
